In the words of King George VI.: "The history of York is the history of England". In fact, York has seen it all in its 2000-year-old history: Roman emperors, martial Vikings, Norman knights, kings and aristocrats. Every one of them has left his footprint: in the alleys, the shambles, and in the glorious cathedral. Take a walk on the 5-km-long city walls and you will get the best view of York's medieval town center.

  • We ate at the White Swan in Ampleforth. The portions were large and well cooked with very nice vegetables included in the price. One of our best meals on our trip

  • This is my favorite city in England...the history is amazing! To be able to walk Roman walls, to step into the grand York Minster, a boat ride on the River Ouse, lovely tea shops, good restaurants..and the very camp, but fun..Jorvik Museum. It's all good!
